Library
Charlotte Country Day School's three libraries offer books, online databases,
periodicals, reference books, maps, computers, software, and audio-visual
equipment and materials. Students can locate library resources using our web-based automated catalog of holdings and other database services, including Britannica Online and WorldBook Online. Students are encouraged to check out books daily and are expected to use the resoures for both academic endeavor and pleasure reading. Professional library faculty are dedicated to each division library to teach and assist students in locating and using information effectively.
The Elizabeth Reddig Lower School Library contains approximately 16,000 holdings, including books,
nonprint resources, multimedia and journals for the young learner that can be accessed from the library as well as from the classroom and from home. Students are invited to visit any time during the school day to exchange books or to do personal research at point of need.
Information literacy skills are sequentially taught in the library and classrooms following a planned curriculum beginning in Junior Kindergarten and continuing through every grade level in the Lower School. Students explore the library collection with guidance, are introduced to various literary genres, and are provided with individual research assistance through a variety of media and projects. Information skills are delivered through authentic assignments which are part of the academic program of units of inquiry in the Lower School.
