About the Upper School
The Upper School student body is a comfortable mix of students
who have been in the school since kindergarten (called "lifers")
and those who have joined the school since then. Students from various
nations represent a growing international population drawn to Country
Day by the educational opportunity, the emphasis on international
studies, and the availability of English as a
Second Language.
Academic, personal, and college guidance are the hallmarks
of the Upper School experience. College guidance counselors
carefully chart the course that culminates in a most appropriate
choice and college acceptance for each senior. An academic
advisor works with each student throughout the four years
and is typically a good friend, role model, and counselor
as well. School spirit reveals itself in various activities.
Whether in the arts, athletics, community service, student
government or a club, every student can find a rewarding niche
in the Upper School. While the Upper School years are academically
challenging and personally rewarding, our graduates agree
that CCDS has been worth their effort because they find themselves
well prepared for college.
